7 Days to Die mods live in the Mods folder on the server. Each mod is its own folder containing a ModInfo.xml file.
Uploading a mod
- Download the mod (e.g. from Nexus Mods or 7daystodiemods.com) and unpack it on your PC.
- Find the folder that directly contains
ModInfo.xml– that's the mod folder. - Stop the server.
- Upload the mod folder into the
Modsfolder in the Files tab – the easiest way is as a ZIP with Upload ZIP and extract. Correct is e.g.Mods/MyMod/ModInfo.xml, notMods/MyMod/MyMod/ModInfo.xml. - Start the server. Whether the mod was loaded is shown in the console or in
logs/latest.logby the line[MODS] Loaded Mod: ….
The folders already in Mods (0_TFP_Harmony, TFP_CommandExtensions and the example mod for the map) are part of the game – please don't delete them.
Do players need to install the mod too?
- No, if the mod only changes values – e.g. larger stacks, more loot, different recipes (pure XML mods). Such mods run on the server only.
- Yes, if the mod adds new blocks, items, models or a
.dll. Then all players need the same mod in the same version. Mods with a.dllalso only work if EasyAntiCheat is off on the server: setEACEnabledtofalseinserverconfig.xml, and players start the game without EAC.
Which applies is usually stated in the mod description ("server side only" or "required on client").
Large overhaul mods
Mods like Darkness Falls or Undead Legacy change the whole game:
- They almost always need a new world. To do this, change the game name (
GameName) in the settings – the old world is kept. - All players have to install the mod, usually with the mod's launcher.
- Plan for more memory – guide values.
- The mod must match the server's game version. If it needs an older version, set the matching beta branch in the Startup variables tab.
Good to know
- Back up first: Create a backup before installing. Mods that add new blocks often can't be removed cleanly from a running world.
- You can change the most important server settings without a mod in the Settings tab – see Managing players and game settings.
