DayZ: Adjusting loot with types.xml

More weapons, fewer cans, faster respawns – how to change the loot on your DayZ server.

2 minute read Updated 28.10.2026

Which items lie on your DayZ server, and how many, is defined in the file types.xml. You'll find it in the Files tab under mpmissions/dayzOffline.chernarusplus/db/types.xml (for other maps in the matching mission folder, e.g. dayzOffline.enoch for Livonia).

How to edit the file

types.xml is about 1 MB – too large to edit comfortably in the browser. The safest way:

  1. Stop the server.
  2. Download types.xml in the Files tab (keep a copy to be safe).
  3. Open and edit it on your PC with a text editor like Notepad++ or VS Code.
  4. In the db folder, click Upload and upload the edited file – it replaces the old one.
  5. Start the server.

One entry explained

<type name="AKM">
<nominal>3</nominal>
<lifetime>7200</lifetime>
<restock>3600</restock>
<min>2</min>
...
<usage name="Military"/>
<value name="Tier4"/>
</type>

ValueMeaning
nominalHow many of them should be on the map at most
minIf the count drops below this, the server respawns more
lifetimeHow long an item stays on the ground (seconds) before it disappears
restockWaiting time (seconds) before respawning – 0 = immediately
usageWhere it spawns, e.g. Military, Police, Town, Hunting
valueIn which areas, Tier1 (coast) to Tier4 (northwest)

Example – more AKMs: set nominal from 3 to 10 and min from 2 to 6. For more loot overall, it's better to raise the most important entries specifically than to double everything – too much loot slows the server down.

Good to know

  • New values don't apply everywhere immediately: Items already lying around stay until their lifetime expires. New loot spreads gradually.
  • Finding typos: After starting, the log profiles/DayZServer_….RPT shows a line like Type '…' will be ignored. (Type does not exist. (Typo?)) for wrong names.
  • File broken? If the server no longer starts after a change, upload your backup copy again. Most common mistake: a missing </type>.
  • Mods often bring their own types files – their instructions say where to include them. See also Installing mods.
