Enshrouded: Game settings, admin password and permissions

Adjust difficulty, experience and day/night in enshrouded_server.json – and create your own admin password.

Your Enshrouded server's settings are in the file enshrouded_server.json. You'll find it in the Files tab directly in the main folder.

What to change where

  • Server name, join password, max. players: in the Startup variables tab (SRV_NAME, SRV_PW, MAX_PLAYERS). The server writes these values into the file itself on every start – so don't change them directly in the file.
  • Game settings and additional passwords: directly in enshrouded_server.json.

Change the file while the server is stopped: stop, open the file, change, save, start.

Game settings

For your own values to apply, first switch the preset to "Custom":

"gameSettingsPreset": "Custom",

After that, the values in the gameSettings section apply. 1 is the default, 2 twice as much, 0.5 half. Popular values:

SettingEffect
experienceCombatFactor, experienceMiningFactor, experienceExplorationQuestsFactorexperience from combat, mining and exploration/quests
enemyDamageFactor, enemyHealthFactorhow hard enemies hit and how much they can take
resourceDropStackAmountFactorhow many resources you get when gathering
factoryProductionSpeedFactorhow fast workbenches and furnaces produce
plantGrowthSpeedFactorhow fast plants grow
shroudTimeFactorhow long you can stay in the Shroud
enableDurabilityfalse turns off wear on weapons and tools

Other presets instead of "Custom" are Default, Relaxed, Hard and Survival – then the preset's fixed values apply and your values under gameSettings are ignored.

Admin password and permissions

Who joins with which password is defined in the userGroups section. The Default group is the normal join password from the startup variables. For admins, create a second group with its own password – players who join with this password may kick and ban:

{ "name": "Admin", "password": "YourAdminPassword", "canKickBan": true, "canAccessInventories": true, "canEditWorld": true, "canEditBase": true, "canExtendBase": true, "reservedSlots": 0 }

Insert this line inside the square brackets of userGroups and separate it from the "Default" group with a comma. In the same way you can create e.g. a "Guest" group that may not mine or build (canEditWorld, canEditBase and canExtendBase set to false).
