Factorio: Connecting to and setting up your server

How to connect to your Factorio server and adjust the name, save and token.

Here you'll learn how to connect to your Factorio server and change the most important settings.

Connecting

  1. Start the server on the server page with Start.
  2. Wait until the status shows “running”. You can follow the progress in the Console tab.
  3. In the game, choose “Multiplayer” → “Connect to address” and enter the address (IP:Port) at the top of your server page. If the server is publicly listed, you'll also find it in the server list.

Important settings

  • Server name (SERVER_NAME) – the name in the games list.
  • Server description (SERVER_DESC) – text in the games list.
  • Save name (SAVE_NAME) – if the save doesn't exist, a new map is created on start.
  • Factorio version (FACTORIO_VERSION) – must match your game version.
  • Autosave interval (SAVE_INTERVAL) – interval between automatic saves in minutes.
  • AFK kick (AFK_KICK) – minutes until inactive players are kicked; 0 = off.

You'll find further settings in the Files tab in data/server-settings.json.

Changes to the Startup variables take effect on the next restart.

Good to know

  • You enter the Factorio server token (SERVER_TOKEN) when ordering. It's needed for the public server list and can be changed later under Startup variables.
