Insurgency: Sandstorm: Connecting to and setting up your server

How to connect to your Insurgency: Sandstorm server and adjust the name, map, scenario and player count.

Here you'll learn how to connect to your Insurgency: Sandstorm server and change the most important settings.

Connecting

  1. Start the server on the server page with Start.
  2. Wait until the status shows “running”. You can follow the progress in the Console tab.
  3. Search for your server name in the in-game server browser, or connect directly using the address (IP:Port) at the top of your server page.

Important settings

  • Server name (HOSTNAME) – the name in the server list.
  • Max. players (MAX_PLAYERS) – how many players can join at the same time.
  • Default map (MAP_NAME) – the map when the server starts.
  • Scenario (SCENARIO) – the scenario; it must match the selected map.
  • Additional startup parameters (ADDSWITCHES) – further switches for advanced users.

Changes to the Startup variables take effect on the next restart.

Good to know

  • You enter the Steam token (GSLT) (GSLTT) when ordering. Without a valid token, the server won't appear in the server browser. You can create a token at steamcommunity.com/dev/managegameservers; you can change it in the Startup variables tab.
  • Optionally, you can enter a Game Stats token (GST) (available at gamestats.sandstorm.game).
  • On first start, the server downloads the game files. This can take a few minutes – please don't interrupt it.
