Here's how to set up JMusicBot – a music bot for Discord.
Setup
- Create an application with a bot in the Discord Developer Portal and copy the bot token (Applications → Bot → “Reset Token”).
- Enter the token and your Discord user ID when ordering.
- Invite the bot to your Discord server via the Developer Portal.
- Click Start on the server page and wait until the status shows “running”. You can see messages in the Console tab.
Important settings
In the Startup variables tab:
- Discord bot token (
BOT_TOKEN) – the bot won't start without a valid token. - Owner ID (
BOT_OWNER) – your Discord user ID; determines who can control the bot (Discord → Settings → Advanced → Developer Mode, then right-click your profile → “Copy ID”). - Command prefix (
BOT_PREFIX) – character before commands, e.g.!for!play. - Stay in channel (
BOT_STAY_IN_CHANNEL) – the bot stays in the voice channel after the queue ends. - Max. track length (
BOT_MAXTIME) – longest allowed track length in seconds.
More settings are in the file config.txt in the Files tab. Changes in the Startup variables tab take effect on the next restart.
Good to know
- Token and user ID are required when ordering and can be changed later under Startup variables.
