Minecraft: Play Java and Bedrock together (Geyser)

One click in the installer – friends on phone, console or the Windows app can join your Java server, without a Java account.

With Geyser and Floodgate, Bedrock Edition players (phone, tablet, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, Windows app) can join your Java server. Bedrock players don't need a Java account.

Set up with one click

  1. Your server must run Paper, Purpur or Spigot. If it runs Vanilla, Fabric or Forge, first switch to Paper under Installer → Versions.
  2. Open the Installer tab in the client area.
  3. In the Allow Bedrock players box, click Set up Bedrock access.

This happens automatically:

  • Your server gets its own port for Bedrock – free of charge.
  • Geyser and Floodgate are installed in the current version.
  • The server restarts twice and Geyser is configured.

After 2–5 minutes the box shows the address and port for Bedrock.

How Bedrock players join

  1. In Minecraft (Bedrock): Play → Servers → Add Server.
  2. Enter the server address and port from the box – note: the Bedrock port is different from the Java port.
  3. Save and join.

On Xbox, PlayStation and Switch, custom servers can only be added with a workaround – see Join Bedrock on console.

Whitelist

If the whitelist is on, allow Bedrock players in the Console:

fwhitelist add PlayerName

Bedrock players appear in the game with a dot in front of their name (e.g. .Steve) to tell them apart from Java players.

Good to know

  • Why a separate port? Since Bedrock version 26.60, Bedrock players connect via a new method (NetherNet). Geyser needs its own port for it and cannot share the Java port.
  • Not everything from Java works 1:1 on Bedrock – some plugins with their own menus or resource packs look different there.
  • Remove Bedrock access in the same box removes Geyser, Floodgate and the extra port again.
  • Running a pure Bedrock server? Then you don't need Geyser – see Java or Bedrock: which server?.
