Plains of Pain: connect to and set up your server

Here's how to connect to your Plains of Pain server and adjust the most important settings.

Connecting

1. Open the server page in the client area and click Start.
2. Wait until the status shows “running”. You can follow the progress in the Console tab.
3. Copy the address (IP:Port) at the top of the server page.
4. Launch Plains of Pain and connect via the server list or directly with the address. Alternatively add the IP with the query port (Ports tab) in Steam under View → Game servers → Favourites.

Important settings

In the Startup variables tab:

• Difficulty (DIFFICULTY) – 0 = Tourist 1 = Rookies 2 = True Wastelander 3 = Veteran 4 = Overlord.
• Max Players (MAX_PLAYERS) – The max amount of players that can join at once.
• Server Name (SERVER_NAME) – This name will appear in the server list in the game.
• Server Password (SERVER_PASSWORD) – If presents, protects server with password.
• World Size (WORLD_SIZE) – 11 = S 21 = M 31 = L 41 = XL 51 = XXL.

Changes in the Startup variables tab take effect on the next restart.

Good to know

• The first start takes longer because the server files are downloaded and set up.
