Here's how to connect to your RimWorld (Open World) server and adjust the most important settings.

Connecting

  1. Open the server page in the client area and click Start.
  2. Wait until the status shows “running”. You can follow the progress in the Console tab.
  3. Copy the address (IP:Port) at the top of the server page.
  4. Install the Open World mod (client) in RimWorld and connect with the address there.

Important settings

In the Startup variables tab:

  • Open World Version (VERSION)
  • Max Players (MAX_PLAYERS) – sets the maximum number of players allowed to connect at once.
  • Enforce Mods (ENFORCE_MODS) – This forces players to use the mods listed in the the "Mods Enforced" folder, with this disabled it will allow players to join with any mods they would like.
  • Use Mod Blacklist (USE_MOD_BLACKLIST) – enabled you to blacklist mods from being used, usually used when enforced mods are disabled.
  • Use Custom Difficulty (USE_CUSTOM_DIFF) – forces all players to use the difficulty setting set in the "Difficulty" file. MAKE SURE YOU GIVE A VALUE TO EVERYTHING OR IT WILL BE AT 0%.
  • Use Whitelist (WHITELIST) – allows only the usernames listed in the "Whitelist" file to join the server.
  • Allow Custom Scenarios (CUSTOM_SCEN) – allows people to create custom scenarios when creating their save on the server.

Changes in the Startup variables tab take effect on the next restart.

Good to know

  • The first start takes longer because the server files are downloaded and set up.
