SCUM: connect to and set up your server

Start your SCUM server, find it in the game and set player count, server name and admins – plus why the first start takes longer.

Here's how to connect to your SCUM server and adjust the most important settings.

Connecting

  1. Open the server page in the client area and click Start.
  2. Wait until the status shows “running”. You can follow the progress in the Console tab.
  3. Copy the address (IP:Port) at the top of the server page.
  4. In SCUM, search the server browser for your server name. For a direct connection, SCUM usually doesn't use the main port but the query port (main port + 2) – you'll find it in the Startup variables tab under QUERY_PORT.

Important settings

In the Startup variables tab:

  • Max. Spieler (MAX_PLAYERS) – maximum number of players.
  • Auto update (AUTO_UPDATE) – updates the server on every restart.
  • Port +1 (RAW_PORT) and Query-Port (QUERY_PORT) – fixed by SCUM, cannot be changed.

After the first start, server name, password and game rules are in SCUM/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/ServerSettings.ini in the Files tab. Add admins in AdminUsers.ini in the same folder with their SteamID64 (one per line). Changes take effect on the next restart.

Good to know

  • SCUM is only available as a Windows server. We run it with Wine – this is set up once on the very first start (about 3–5 minutes; the Console shows “Einmalige Wine-Einrichtung”). Please don't restart during this time.
  • The server files are large, so the download and first start need a little patience.
  • Ideally edit configuration files while the server is stopped – otherwise SCUM may overwrite them when shutting down.
