You've already played co-op with friends and want to continue on the server? You can do this by uploading the save folder and telling the server which slot to load.
1. Find the save on your PC
Press Windows key + R, paste %userprofile%\AppData\LocalLow\Endnight\SonsOfTheForest\Saves and press Enter. Inside is a folder with your Steam ID containing the folders Multiplayer and SinglePlayer. Each save is a folder with a ten-digit number, e.g. 0123456789. Ideally use a save from Multiplayer – that's the save you played as host in co-op.
2. Upload
- Stop the server.
- Rename the save folder on your PC, e.g. to
0000000002. The number without leading zeros is the slot – 2 in this case. - Upload the folder in the Files tab to
serverconfig/Saves/DedicatedServer/Multiplayer/– the easiest way is as a ZIP with Upload ZIP and extract. Afterwards you'll have e.g.serverconfig/Saves/DedicatedServer/Multiplayer/0000000002/.
The folder 0000000001 is the save the server created itself on first start. Choose a different number for your save so it's kept.
3. Set the slot
In the Startup variables tab, enter the number at Save slot (SAVE_SLOT) – 2 in the example – and start the server. The game mode from the startup variables only applies to new saves – your own save keeps its mode.
Becoming admin
To manage the server in the game, add yourself as owner:
- Your Steam ID (17 digits, starts with
7656…) can be found in Steam under your name at the top right → Account details. - In the Files tab, open
serverconfig/ownerswhitelist.txtand add the Steam ID on its own line. Several owners: one ID per line. - Restart the server.
Good to know
- Further settings like day length, enemy strength or seasons are in
serverconfig/dedicatedserver.cfgunderCustomGameModeSettings. They apply when the game mode is set toCustom. Only change the file while the server is stopped. - Back up first: Download or create a backup of the server beforehand.
- Connecting and startup variables: Connecting and setting up a Sons of the Forest server.
