Squad: Connecting to and setting up your server

Start your Squad server, find it in the server browser and set the name, player count, reserved slots and team balance.

Here's how to connect to your Squad server and adjust the most important settings.

Connecting

  1. Open the server page in the client area and click Start.
  2. Wait until the status shows “running”. You can follow the progress in the Console tab.
  3. Copy the address (IP:Port) at the top of the server page.
  4. Search for the server by its name in the Squad server browser and join.

Important settings

In the Startup variables tab:

  • Server name (servername) – name in the server list.
  • Max. players (maxplayers) – maximum number of players.
  • Reserved slots (reservedslots) – slots for admins and moderators.
  • Advertise server (advertise) – show the server in the public list (true/false).
  • Force team balance (teambal) – evens out teams that are too unbalanced (true/false).

You'll find further settings in SquadGame/ServerConfig/Server.cfg in the Files tab. Changes in the Startup variables tab take effect on the next restart.

Good to know

  • Enter Workshop mods as comma-separated IDs in WORKSHOP_ITEMS; for them to be loaded, a reinstall is required – afterwards click Reinstall under Manage on the server page (create a backup first).
  • The first start takes longer because the server files are downloaded and set up.
