Here's how to connect to your Terraria server and adjust the most important settings.
Connecting
- Open the server page in the client area and click Start.
- Wait until the status shows “running”. You can follow the progress in the Console tab.
- Copy the address (IP:Port) at the top of the server page.
- In Terraria, choose Multiplayer → Join → Join via IP, select your character and enter the IP and port from the server page.
Important settings
In the Startup variables tab:
- World name (
WORLD_NAME) – name of the world file. - Password (
PASSWORD) – password for joining. - Max. players (
MAX_PLAYERS) – maximum number of players. - World size (
WORLD_SIZE) – 1 (small), 2 (medium), 3 (large). - Difficulty (
WORLD_DIFFICULTY) – 0 (classic), 1 (expert), 2 (master), 3 (journey). - Welcome message (
SERVER_MOTD) – message of the day.
The configuration is in serverconfig.txt in the Files tab. Changes in the Startup variables tab take effect on the next restart.
Good to know
- World size, seed and difficulty only apply when creating a new world.
