How to connect to your tModLoader server and set the world, password and mods.

Here you’ll learn how to connect to your Terraria server with tModLoader and set it up.

Connecting

  1. Start the server on the server page with Start.
  2. Wait until the status shows “running”. You can follow the progress in the Console.
  3. Launch tModLoader, choose “Multiplayer” → “Join via IP” and enter the IP and port from the server page.
  4. The address (IP:Port) is shown at the top of your server page.

Important settings

You change these values in the Startup variables tab. Changes take effect on the next restart.

  • World name (WORLD_NAME) – the name of the world file. If the world doesn’t exist, it is created.
  • World size (WORLD_SIZE) – 1 (small), 2 (medium) or 3 (large), applies to new worlds.
  • Difficulty (DIFFICULTY) – 0 (normal), 1 (expert), 2 (master) or 3 (journey), applies to new worlds.
  • Server password (SERVER_PASSWORD) – leave empty if everyone may join.
  • Language (LANGUAGE) – 1 English, 2 German, 3 Italian, 4 French, 5 Spanish.

Upload mods to the mods folder in the Files tab. More settings can be found in serverconfig.txt.

Good to know

  • The server and the players should use the same mods and the same tModLoader version.
