Vein: Connecting to and setting up your server

Here you’ll learn how to connect to your VEIN server and change the most important settings.

Connecting

1. Start the server on the server page with Start.
2. Wait until the status shows “running”. You can follow the progress in the Console.
3. In the game, connect via the multiplayer menu or direct connect using the address from the server page.
4. The address (IP:Port) is shown at the top of your server page.
5. Enter the server password when joining.

Important settings

You change these values in the Startup variables tab. Changes take effect on the next restart.

• Server name (SERVER_NAME) – the name in the server browser.
• Server password (SERVER_PASSWORD) – the password for joining.
• Max. players (MAX_PLAYERS) – how many players can play at the same time.
• Public server (PUBLIC_SERVER) – set to false if the server should not appear in the server browser.

Good to know

• The portal generates the server password automatically during setup. It is shown once at the top of the server page – please write it down. You can change it under Startup variables.
• During setup, the server files are downloaded via Steam, so the first start may take a few minutes longer.
