Mailbox security: understanding logins and warnings

Who logged in, what failed attempts mean – and what to do after a suspicious login.

For every email mailbox we show you who logged in and when, and whether someone is trying to get into your mailbox.

How to open the page

Client area → Domains → your domain → E-mail section → click the shield icon next to the mailbox.

What you'll see there

  • Password: whether it was set via the customer portal. You can change it right there.
  • Recent logins: from where (country) and how (mail app, phone or webmail).
  • Failed logins: attempts with a wrong password, grouped by day and country.
  • Sent per day: how many emails your mailbox has sent.

We keep individual logins for 30 days and the daily totals for 90 days. After that they are deleted automatically.

The hints in the mailbox list

  • “Please set the password once” – the password was set before our security check existed. Set it once more and we'll check its length and whether it appears in known data breaches. Why we can't check the old one: How do we handle your password?
  • “Suspicious login – please change password” – after many wrong attempts someone logged in successfully, from a country the mailbox had never been used from before. That may be an attacker.

Failed login attempts – should I worry?

Usually not. Every mailbox on the internet is regularly probed automatically. As long as no successful login from an unfamiliar place follows, nothing has happened. A long, unique password is enough protection. If attempts pile up, our mail server blocks the attacking address automatically.

What to do after a suspicious login

  1. Set a new password immediately – on the security page or at the mailbox.
  2. Enter the new password in your mail apps and on your phone.
  3. Check in webmail whether unknown forwards or auto-replies have been set up.
  4. If you used the password elsewhere, change it there too.
