Rust: connect to and set up your server

Start your Rust server, connect via the F1 console and set the name, map, player count and Oxide.

Here's how to connect to your Rust server and adjust the most important settings.

Connecting

  1. Open the server page in the client area and click Start.
  2. Wait until the status shows “running”. You can follow the progress in the Console tab.
  3. Copy the address (IP:Port) at the top of the server page.
  4. In Rust, open the console with F1 and enter client.connect IP:Port (address from the server page).

Important settings

In the Startup variables tab:

  • Server name (HOSTNAME) – name in the public server list.
  • Description (DESCRIPTION) – text below the server name, e.g. rules.
  • Max. players (MAX_PLAYERS) – how many players can play at the same time.
  • World size (WORLD_SIZE) and World seed (WORLD_SEED) – size and seed of the generated map.
  • OxideMod (OXIDE) – 1 installs and updates Oxide for plugins, 0 turns it off.

Changes in the Startup variables tab take effect on the next restart.

Good to know

  • The portal generates the RCON password automatically during setup. It is shown once at the top of the server page – please make a note of it. You can change it in the Startup variables tab (RCON_PASS).
  • You'll find additional ports (e.g. for RCON) in the Ports tab.
