How much memory does a Minecraft Bedrock server need?

Bedrock is frugal: guide values by player count, add-ons and world size.

The Bedrock server is much more frugal than the Java server: a freshly started server with an empty world uses only about 0.2 GB on our test servers. You mainly need more memory for more players, a larger view distance and add-ons.

Guide values

What you playPlayers at onceRecommendation
Vanilla with friendsup to 52 GB
Vanilla, larger group5–153–4 GB
With add-ons or a large worldup to 154–6 GB
Many players, many add-ons15+6–8 GB

What else affects the requirement

  • View distance: view-distance and tick-distance (Settings tab) cost the most. A view distance of 10–16 is enough for most servers.
  • Add-ons: Behavior packs with many new creatures or scripts need more memory and CPU – how to install add-ons.
  • Exploration: Many players running in different directions at once load many new chunks.

Start small, upgrade later

You don't have to decide right away: you can change the memory yourself at any time – your world, mods and settings stay, and on an upgrade you only pay the pro-rata difference. See Booking more or less memory.

On the server page, the history shows how much memory your server really uses and recommends a suitable tier if needed – more on this. If it lags even though memory is free, more CPU power usually helps more.
