The key question before ordering: how much memory (RAM) does your Minecraft server need? It depends mainly on what you play – vanilla, plugins or modpacks – and only then on how many players are online at the same time.
Guide values
| What you play | Players at once | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| Vanilla or Paper, with friends | up to 5 | 2–3 GB |
| Paper with a few plugins | 5–15 | 4 GB |
| Paper with many plugins, large world | 15–40 | 6–8 GB |
| Light mods (Fabric/Forge, up to ~50 mods) | up to 10 | 4–6 GB |
| Large modpacks (e.g. All the Mods, RLCraft) | up to 10 | 8–12 GB |
| Large modpacks with many players | 10+ | 12–16 GB |
Our Minecraft servers start with Paper – faster and leaner than the vanilla server and still fully compatible with vanilla clients.
What else affects it
- View distance:
view-distanceinserver.properties(tab Settings) costs the most. 8–10 is enough for most servers. - Exploration: Many players heading in different directions load many new chunks.
- Farms and redstone: Large mob farms and many hoppers load the CPU rather than memory.
Start small, upgrade later
You don't have to decide right away: you can change the memory yourself at any time – your world, mods and settings stay, and on an upgrade you only pay the pro-rata difference. See Booking more or less memory.
On the server page, the history shows how much memory your server really uses and recommends a suitable tier if needed – more on this. If it lags even though memory is free, more CPU power usually helps more.
