In 7 Days to Die, world size, player count and mods decide how much memory you need. Even without players, a server with the Navezgane map uses a good 2 GB on our test servers.
Guide values
| What you play | Players at once | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| Navezgane or small random world (6K), no mods | up to 4 | 6 GB |
| Small or medium world (6K–8K) | 5–8 | 8 GB |
| Large random world (10K) or more players | 8–12 | 10–12 GB |
| Large overhaul mods (e.g. Darkness Falls) | up to 8 | 12–16 GB |
What else affects the requirement
- Blood moon: On blood moon nights many zombies spawn at once – that is when an undersized server starts to lag. You set the number of zombies per player in the Settings tab.
- World size: Random worlds (RWG) at 10K need noticeably more than 6K. You choose the world size before the world is generated.
- Mods: Small server mods cost hardly anything, large overhaul mods cost a lot – how to install mods.
Start small, upgrade later
You don't have to decide right away: you can change the memory yourself at any time – your world, mods and settings stay, and on an upgrade you only pay the pro-rata difference. See Booking more or less memory.
On the server page, the history shows how much memory your server really uses and recommends a suitable tier if needed – more on this. If it lags even though memory is free, more CPU power usually helps more.
