7 Days to Die: connect to and set up your server

Start your 7 Days to Die server, connect in-game and adjust difficulty, updates and serverconfig.xml.

Here's how to connect to your 7 Days to Die server and adjust the most important settings.

Connecting

  1. Open the server page in the client area and click Start.
  2. Wait until the status shows “running”. You can follow the progress in the Console tab.
  3. Copy the address (IP:Port) at the top of the server page.
  4. Connect in-game via the multiplayer menu or direct connect using this address.

Important settings

In the Startup variables tab:

  • Difficulty (GAME_DIFFICULTY) – 0 (easiest) to 5 (hardest).
  • Automatic update (AUTO_UPDATE) – updates the server on start (1 = on, 0 = off).
  • Beta branch (SRCDS_BETAID) – e.g. latest_experimental for the experimental version.
  • Telnet password (PASSWORD) – password for Telnet access to control the server.

You set the server name, server password and other game rules in the file serverconfig.xml in the Files tab. Changes in the Startup variables tab take effect on the next restart.

Good to know

  • The first start takes longer because the server files are downloaded and set up.
  • The game version must match the server version – if you use a beta branch, select the same branch in the game too.
